When all you want to do is dance
CityBeat be clubbin': What to do this week
You want parties? The last half of September has more than even the most seasoned (weathered) of club kids can handle. It starts with Berlin-based glitchy-house DJ Jesse Rose at SIN Niteclub (802 Sixth Ave.) on Sept. 20. Having worked with Dave Taylor (aka Switch) under the moniker Induceve and recently starting his own label, Front Room Recordings, Rose has more than his fair share of thick, synthy beats under his belt. Our own Alain de Saracho and Barry Weaver will spin the opening sets.
Sept. 22 marks the return of Dirtybird artist Claude VonStroke, along with the London tech-house duo Italoboyz, to celebrate the launch of VonStroke's new label, mothership. If you didn't catch VonStroke's first San Diego appearance earlier this year, you missed out on the sweatiest party of the winter. Don't skip this one. Just like Jesse Rose, these guys will be spinning at SIN Niteclub with Barry Weaver opening.
As you may have heard, this is Street Scene weekend. I'm happy to report that they've included a healthy dose of electronic artists in the lineup, including The Crystal Method, Z-Trip and Infected Mushroom. Undoubtedly, though, the festival's paramount electronic performance happens when London's psychedelic techno-heads, Simian Mobile Disco, step up to the decks on Sept. 23. Their debut album, Attack Decay Sustain Release, out this month on Wichita Recordings, is nothing short of mind-blowing.
On Sept. 27, there are two parties to choose from: the dance-y, avant-garde, "cut-and-paste train wreck" known as Girl Talk with Dan Deacon and White Williams at the all-ages Epicentre (8450 Mira Mesa Blvd.) or Polish house duo 3 Channels with San Francisco-based techno DJ Worthy at (guess where) SIN Niteclub.
Finally, if you're still upright on Sept. 28, the fourth installment of Naza Space Circus takes place in Tijuana at Hipódromo Caliente (Blvd. Agua Caliente and Tapachula) featuring Miami's Lazaro Casanova and Atlanta's Le Castle Vania along with local faves Loud Noises (aka Wero & Monchis). DJs! Contortionists! Acrobats! What more could you ask for?
