Following in the footsteps of East Village, two more ’hoods have begun hosting a farmers market: City Heights on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 4440 Wightman St. and Little Italy, Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Date Street between Kettner and State streets. For a list of all farmers markets in San Diego County, www.sdfarmbureau.org.

This month, the brand-new Porto Vista Hotel opens its brand-new rooftop restaurant and lounge, called The Glass Door. 1835 Columbia St., Little Italy, 619-544-0164

We’re digging the food at Hamilton’s new next-door café. Recommended:  pub chips dipped in homemade beer-and-cheese soup (made with local Green Flash Tripel) or the Blue Boy burger, made with Brandt beef and topped with sharp cheddar, Point Reyes blue cheese and arugula mayo. 1521 30th St., South Park, 619-238-5460.

Cavaillon, one of San Diego’s most underrated restaurants, has a new “Sunset Tapas” menu, offered Sunday through Thursday, 5 to 7 p.m. Small plates like the wild mushroom ravioli with port wine and truffle sauce or calamari paella are under $10; by-the-glass wines are $2 off regular price. 14701 Via Bettona, Suite 200, Rancho Santa Fe, 858-433-0483.

Searocket Bistro features a new happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. every day, offering half-price drinks (local craft beers and wines) and half-price grilled sardines. Coolest dish on the new eatery’s menu? Local sea-urchin bisque served in the shell. 3382 30th St., South Park, 619-255-7049.

Best place to eat on a warm night? The new Linkery space with its wall of windows that open up to let in the evening air. Most awesome dish on the menu: grilled farmers market peach halves stuffed with pork belly and wrapped in bacon.

Anyone still lamenting Bud’s Louisiana Food Shoppe closing its Little Italy location will be happy to hear that Bud’s Café opened recently in Tierrasanta. Best bread pudding ever. 10425 Tierrasanta Blvd. #105, 858-573-BUDS.

We’ve saved the best news for last: this weekend (Friday, July 4, through Sunday, July 6) Eclipse Chocolat holds its first “Cupcake Extravagana Weekend.” Take advantage of the buy-two-get-one-free deal and pray that the cupcake you purchase (there are 36 flavors to choose from) will be wrapped in the golden “EC” ticket, which entitles the bearer to a VIP Eclipse Pass— meaning a free box of nine cupcakes each week for two months. 2121 El Cajon Blvd., North Park, 619-578-2984.
