Zanna, Don’t—A Musical Fairy Tale is exactly that. It’s set at Heartsville High School, where everybody’s gay; the chess club members are the campus sex symbols, and the spring play features straights as the beleaguered minority. The Tim Aceto-Alexander Dinelaris entry has won a couple awards, and this assured cast takes Ira Spector’s direction well. But even as many of the stage personnel play multiple roles, the tunes require bigger production values than a roster of 10 can be expected to give. Do, though, check out Cashaé Monya in the roles of Candi and Loretta—she’s a total hoot.
